Black objects in NavisWorks?

Ever had objects from a dwg that come in black? No matter what you do it seems you cannot change the color.

The solution is very simple, go to the materials tab in presenter and delete the material called ByLayer, this comes across sometimes when the image file isn't present.

  2. I've just had the same problem. Added a material to an item and nearly all items turned black. I read this blog, deleted the "bylayer material" and all is fixed. Thanks David.

  3. I have an other solution.

When a AutoCAD object turns black in Navisworks, then the material is set to "By Layer". You can check this parameter in the properties palette in AutoCAD. (Ctrl+1)

When you set the correct material in AutoCAD, the appends in Navisworks works fine with the materials. :)

This prevents you to update or create a new material in Navisworks.
